Fl. Arbeloa et al., PHOTOPHYSICAL AND LASING PROPERTIES OF PYRROMETHENE-567 DYE IN LIQUIDSOLUTION - ENVIRONMENT EFFECTS, Chemical physics, 236(1-3), 1998, pp. 331-341
The photophysical and lasing properties of the laser dye pyrromethene5
67 (PM567) have been studied by UV/VIS absorption, fluorescence (stead
y-state and time-correlated), and laser techniques as a function of so
lvent polarity, dye concentration, and temperature. UV/VIS absorption,
fluorescence, and lasing bands of PM567 are mainly affected by the so
lvent polarity, while the H-bond donor and acceptor ability of the sol
vents has only a minor influence. These influences are analyzed in ter
ms of the solvent stabilization on the resonance structures of the pyr
romethene chromophore. Good correlations between fluorescence and lasi
ng properties of PM567 have been observed, the dye showing the highest
lasing efficiencies and fluorescences quantum yields in very polar pr
otic solvents. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
