Geriatric incontinence is a major health and socioeconomic problem, af
flicting 15-30% of elderly living at home and 50% (or more) of those i
n nursing homes [150]. It has been recognized, however, that incontine
nce, even in the frail elderly, is a treatable and often curable condi
tion, provided it is appropriately assessed diagnostically and managed
therapeutically.
