The hexaploid winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) line Martonvasari 9
kr1 (Mv9kr1) possessing recessive crossability alleles (kr(1)kr(1)kr(2
)kr(2)) was pollinated with rye (Secale cereale L. cv. Lovaszpatonai).
The mean crossability percentage was fairly high (68.4%). The chromos
ome number distribution was examined in mitotic chromosome spreads of
octoploid triticale obtained via colchicine treatment of the initial h
ybrid and it was found to range from 51 to 56. Eighteen amphiploid (C-
1) plants were backcrossed with Mv9kr1 for the purpose of producing ad
dition lines and subsequent alien gene transfer into wheat. All the ry
e (Secale cereale L. cv. Lovaszpatonai) chromosomes were identified in
mitotic chromosome spreads of octoploid triticale with the help of C-
banding and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).
