Dj. Holthouse et al., NONTOXIGENIC CORYNEBACTERIUM-DIPHTHERIAE - 2 CASES AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE, The Journal of infection, 37(1), 1998, pp. 62-66
Non-toxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae infections are being reporte
d with increasing frequency. We present two cases of C. diphtheriae en
docarditis requiring early valve replacement. Both cases were complica
ted by cerebral embolic phenomena and pseudoaneurysm formation in lowe
r limb arterial vessels. Non-toxigenic C. diphtheriae septicaemia must
be excluded when 'diphtheroids' are isolated from blood cultures.
