A method of tilting a sample out of the normal plane of incidence of a
n infrared beam has been developed for investigating the arrangement o
f the various segments of FLC molecules in three dimensions. A direct
information about the biased rotation of FLC molecules around their lo
ng molecular axis has been obtained using this method.
