Abstract
Strongly correlated quantum systems in low dimensions often exhibit no vel quantum ordering. This ordering is sometimes hidden and can be rev ealed only by examining new ''dual'' types of correlations. Such order ing leads to novel collection modes and fractional quantum numbers. Ex amples will be presented from quantum spin chains and the quantum Hall effect. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
