VARIATIONAL APPROACH TO A NONLOCAL IDENTIFICATION PROBLEM RELATED TO NONLINEAR ION-TRANSPORT

A variational approach to a non-linear non-local identification proble m related to the non-linear transport equation is studied. Introducing a similarity transformation, the problem is formulated as an identifi cation problem for a non-linear differential equation of second order with an additional non-local condition. For the solution of the forwar d problem stability in H-I-norm with respect to the identification par ameter is obtained. Using this result the existence of a solution to t he identification problem is proved. Some results of computational exp eriments are given. (C) 1998 B. G. Teubner Sturtgart-John Wiley & Sons , Ltd.
