A. Tenbosch et F. Celestini, ON THE SURFACE TRANSITION IN SMALL NONSPHERICAL PARTICLES, Zeitschrift fur Physik. D, Atoms, molecules and clusters, 28(4), 1993, pp. 293-297
We discuss a theoretical model for a surface transition in a nonspheri
cal geometry. We study the stationary states of coexistence within a d
roplet of given volume. We show that finite range interactions with th
e matrix act to stabilize a finite non-spherical surface layer which i
s thickest in zones of highest curvature. At a certain temperature, th
e core tends to a spherical shape, becomes unstable and coexistence is
no longer possible.
