Abstract
In recent years, the application of ultrasonic welding to plastics has become common. In this paper a method for ultrasonic welding of plast ic pipes using torsional vibrations is reported. In this method torsio nal vibrations are applied to the welding pipe from the circumferentia l direction with horns placed near the welding surface. Static pressur e is independently applied from the vibrations to the welding surface. It was observed that acrylic resin pipes could be effectively welded by the proposed method.
