Abstract
The title complex dimeric tetraquadipyridinioacatateytterbium perchlor ate ([Yb(C5H5NCH2COO)(2). 4(H2O)](2).(ClO4)(6)) has been prepared by r eacting ytterbium perchlorate with pyridine betaine (pyridinioacetate) in warm water and its X-ray crystal structure has been determined. Th e ytterbium(III) ion is surrounded by four carboxylato O atoms and fou r aqua-ligands in an eight-coordinate approximate dodecahedral arrange ment. The average Yb-O (aqua),Yb-O (carboxylato) bond distances are 2. 366(3) and 2.283(3) Angstrom, respectively.
