The liquidus and the solidus surfaces in the Ni - Fe - Mo - Cr system
were determined as well as the ternary eutectic composition in the sys
tem Ni - Fe - Mo (40.5 wt.% Ni + 46.5 wt.% Mo + 13 wt.% Fe), the eutec
tic temperature (1312 degrees C) and the eutectic reaction, L --> gamm
a + P + sigma). Isothermal treatments between T-L and T-S directional
solidification experiments lead to the distribution coefficients at eq
uilibrium and the diffusion coefficients for each element in the melt
ahead of the plane solidification front. It was found that the melt is
diluted with Ni and Fe, enriched with Mo, and Cr is evenly distribute
d in the liquid and solid.
