A new analytical model to estimate the elastic modulus of composites r
einforced with discontinuous inclusions is presented. Comparison with
experimental values for Al-SiC and WC-Co systems shows very good agree
ment. Comparisons are also made with previous models and a slight impr
ovement is shown. In these two-phase composites it is shown that over
the entire range of volume fractions the contiguity of the ductile pha
se plays an important role in the elastic behavior of the composite.
