Intraabdominal complications during cardiopulmonary bypass are extreme
ly rare, with an incidence of less than 1% in multiple retrospective s
tudies. These complications are associated with a high mortality, and
their rapid diagnosis is critical to the outcome of the patient. We pr
esent a ease of spontaneous intraabdominal hemorrhage after combined c
arotid endarterectomy and four-vessel coronary artery bypass grafting,
which was diagnosed through a diaphragmatic window. (C) 1998 by The S
