(XCJ) PRODUCTION IN E(-) ANNIHILATION - ART. NO. 017502()E()

Inclusive production of chi(cJ) in e(+)e(-) annihilations is an excell ent probe of the role of higher Fock states in the production of heavy quarkonia. Within the non-relativistic QCD approach, contributions fr om the short-distance production of color-octet cc pairs are significa ntly larger than those from color-singlet production. At the same time , chi(cJ) production rates are significantly smaller than expected in the color evaporation approach. Measurements of the chi(cJ) production at CLEO and future B-factories will thus constitute a major test of t heoretical approaches to the production of heavy quarkonia. [S0556-282 1(98)04813-9].
