Abstract
Iron aluminosilicate samples were prepared by the sol-gel method. X-ra y diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a.c. susce ptibility measurements (chi(a.c.)) were used to study the role of heat -treatment temperature and atmosphere on magnetite precipitation. The results obtained prove that it is possible to prepare ferrimagnetic gl ass-ceramics at temperatures less than 1000 degrees C. The amount of m agnetite present in the samples depends on the heat-treatment temperat ure and atmospheric conditions. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rig hts reserved.
