The atomic structure of liquid Te1-xIx mixtures with x=0.2, 0.4, 0.5.
0.6, 0.7 and 0.8 has been investigated in the temperature range 300-60
0 degrees C. Using the high intensity total scattering spectrometer (H
IT) (National Laboratory for High Energy Physics at Tsukuba) the neutr
on diffraction measurements were carried out. The structural changes i
n Te-I mixtures are mainly due to the variation in the number-number c
orrelation function. A change in the structure factor has been observe
d in the concentration range from 0.2 less than or equal to x less tha
n or equal to 0.4. The metal-nonmetal transition in this system is rel
ated to a change in topological short-range order. (C) 1998 Elsevier S
