Abstract
Gold particles embedded in a Mylar matrix were studied by Au-197 Mossb auer spectroscopy. The cores of the particles have metallic properties for particles greater than or equal to 1.5 nm. Far particle sizes les s than 6 nm, additional quadrupole split components attributed to surf ace atoms appear in the Mossbauer spectra.
