Jg. Huddleston et al., ROOM-TEMPERATURE IONIC LIQUIDS AS NOVEL MEDIA FOR CLEAN LIQUID-LIQUID-EXTRACTION, Chemical communications, (16), 1998, pp. 1765-1766
The partitioning of simple, substituted-benzene derivatives between wa
ter and the room temperature ionic liquid, butylmethylimidazolium hexa
fluorophosphate, is based on the solutes' charged state or relative hy
drophobicity; room temperature ionic liquids thus may be suitable cand
idates for replacement of volatile organic solvents in liquid-liquid e
xtraction processes.
