An incarceration of the large colon through the foramen omentale in a
16 year old gelding is described. The horse was admitted because of se
vere colic and massive shock. At exploratory laparotomy an abnormal en
largement of the foramen omentale was found. 70 % of the large colon w
ere herniated through and incarcerated in the abnormal large foramen o
mentale and necrosis had destroid the incarcerated bowel. Because of b
ad prognosis the horse was euthanatized by the owners request.
