A 4 month old male Rottweiler was diagnosed with an unilateral atresia
of the external meatus. No other abnormalities were seen. The accumul
ation of cellular and sebaceous debris caused an inflammation in the a
tretic ear canal. The tympanic membrane was intact and there was no in
volvement of the middle ear or the bulla. The first surgery to reconst
ruct the external meatus failed because the anastomosis stenosed. In a
second procedure the anular cartilage was sutured to the skin. One ye
ar after the last surgical treatment the dog is doing well.
