Ym. Yang et al., STUDY ON OSCILLATORY BEHAVIOR AND DYNAMIC RELEASE OF ALKALOIDS OF CULTURED CATHARANTHUS-ROSEUS CELLS, Journal of the Indian Chemical Society, 75(8), 1998, pp. 474-476
During the growth of Catharanthus roseus cells, the extracellular pH,
along with the both intracellular and extracellular alkaloid contents,
oscillate under both long-term and short-term sampling. This study in
vestigates the possibility of manipulating the extracellular pH to ind
uce the release of intracellularly retained alkaloids. The results sho
w that shifting the pH leads to a dynamic release of intracellular alk
aloids of C roseus cells, and meanwhile has no harmful effects on alka
loid synthesis of C. roseus cells. Lowering the pH can thus be an mean
s to strengthen the release of intracellular alkaloids in large quanti
ties.
