H. Platokouki et al., DIFFUSE SPLENIC AND VISCERAL HEMANGIOMAS COMPLICATED BY CHRONIC CONSUMPTION COAGULOPATHY, Acta Paediatrica Japonica Overseas Edition, 40(4), 1998, pp. 381-384
The case of a 7-year-old girl with a 2 year history of easy bruising a
ssociated with thrombocytopenia is reported. On admission she presente
d with ecchymoses, abdominal distention and splenomegaly. Hemostasis i
nvestigation revealed a consumption coagulopathy. Several radiological
studies failed to confirm the diagnosis of diffuse splenic and viscer
al hemangiomatosis, which was eventually estasblished by an explorativ
e laparotomy. Platelet count and the other coagulation abnormalities p
rogressively returned to normal after splenectomy, although the remain
ing hemangiomas were extensive.
