Lj. Soltzberg et al., PREDICTION OF EARLY-GROWTH AND LATE-GROWTH MORPHOLOGIES OF IONIC-CRYSTALS, Acta crystallographica. Section B, Structural science, 54, 1998, pp. 384-390
Comparison of early- and late-growth crystal morphologies of several w
ater-soluble ionic materials suggests that early rapid growth is accom
panied by a specific type of morphological distortion. This distortion
, involving a change in the relative growth rate of just one growth di
rection, is consistent with our previously proposed mechanism for the
transition from normal, polyhedral crystal growth to dendritic growth.
Interpretation of this morphological distortion was aided by morpholo
gy prediction methods based on computed attachment energies.
