Abstract
The fluid dynamics in jet loop fermenters has been subject to experime ntal and theoretical investigation. It is demonstrated that by determi nation of Euler number, Bodenstein number, and residence time distribu tion for the gas phase it is possible to perform a reliable characteri zation of the fermenters. It can be shown that the investigated jet lo op fermenters with internal loop closely resemble ideally mixed tanks.
