The research on psychoeducational family interventions is reviewed, ou
tlining the key findings of the early intervention studies, and summar
izing what later studies con tribute to our knowledge. Questions of re
levance to clinicians are addressed. The author draws attention to per
tinent issues in relation to training and supervision of therapists, a
nd highlights difficulties which must be overcome if family interventi
ons are to be provided routinely in clinical services.
