Abstract
We have obtained photometric and spectroscopic observations of the sus pected cataclysmic variable stars VW Tucanae, Phe 1, and Scl 2. VW Tuc and Phe 1 are confirmed as cataclysmic variables (CVs). VW Tuc has th e spectrum of a ''normal,'' disk-accreting CV. Phe 1 is a double-lined spectroscopic binary that may have a short orbital period-a time-reso lved spectroscopic study of the kinematics in this system could have i mportant implications to the understanding of CV structure and evoluti on. Scl 2 appears to be a non-CV composed of a late-type dwarf emissio n (dMe) star with a (noninteracting) while dwarf or hot subdwarf compa nion.
