Rat. Ruiz et al., THE USE OF BALANCED LINES FOR PRESENTATION OF MUTANTS IN ARABIDOPSIS AND OTHER PLANTS, Journal of Experimental Botany, 49(326), 1998, pp. 1597-1601
Mutations leading to sterility or lethality can only be preserved in t
he heterozygotic state. Further use of such mutations requires conside
rable time and work to separate heterozygous from homozygous wild-type
plants. This study shows that establishing balanced lines, by introdu
cing visible markers linked in trans to such mutations, circumvents th
ese disadvantages.
