Abstract
We investigate the accuracy of various numerical methods used to simul ate the time evolution of partial differential equations for functions valued in S-2. We use three different methods to describe the fields: a unit length vector, the polar angles, and a complex field. We deriv e some nonlinear finite difference operators and we compare the differ ent methods used in simulations. For the time integration, we employ b oth the 4th order Runge-Kutta and the leapfrog methods. (C) 1998 Acade mic Press.
