It is shown that the ion polarization drift gives rise to a finite den
sity flux in drift wave turbulence. A visible effect of this transport
is reflected in the motion of coherent vortical structures, which res
ults in strong, burst-like transport. If there is no phase shift betwe
en density and potential fluctuations it is the dominant contribution
to the flux, even when the E x B drift, is the dominating velocity.
