Given land confirmed numerically) that the exponents alpha and beta in
the passive scalar and velocity structure functions [(Delta T-3)(a)]s
imilar to r(alpha), and [(Delta u(3))(a)]similar to r(beta) are anomal
ous, the scaling of gamma in [(u(x + r) - u(x))(a)(T(x+r)-T(x))(2a)]si
milar to r(gamma) is investigated. Analytical estimates show that gamm
a cannot be as anomalous as alpha or beta. Numerical computations (Pr=
1, Re-lambda=141) show that gamma is closer to beta than to alpha. In
addition, the statistical dependence of the velocity and passive scala
r differences leads to an enhanced anomaly in gamma. (C) 1998 American
