The utility of Al-27 NMR in characterisation of metal chelates of Al i
s demonstrated in the case of N-(2'-hydroxyethyl)iminodiacetic acid (H
EIDA). Based on the near linear relationship between 27Al chemical shi
ft and denticity of ligand reported earlier for Al chelates with amino
polycarboxylic acids,it could be concluded that HEIDA functions as a t
etradentate ligand with participation of hydroxyethyl group in coordin
ation. N,N-,Bis(2'-hydroxyethyl)glycine(DHEG) does not complex with Al
while triethanolamine(TEA) functions as a bidendate ligand in a limit
ed pH range.
