VERY NEUTRON-RICH ISOTOPES OF LIGHT-ELEMENTS - NUCLEAR PROPERTIES ANDPRODUCTION

This review is devoted to the properties of neutron-rich nuclei of lig ht elements and the problems concerning them which have been of greate st interest in recent years. The reactions used to produce such nuclei are discussed. Special attention is paid to the multinucleon transfer mechanism, used successfully for spectroscopic studies of light exoti c nuclei near the neutron drip line. The feasibility of studying the s tructure of exotic nuclei in reactions involving radioactive beams is discussed. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
