Dual-career couples have unique needs which are accentuated during rel
ocation. Nowhere is this problem more acute than when one of the membe
rs is transferred overseas, The career conflict of a trailing spouse a
ccentuates the ''spillover'' of tension from the professional domain t
o the family unit. This tension makes it difficult for the expatriate
to perform well in the foreign assignment. This paper examines a proce
ss that could be followed to develop a social support system for dual-
career couples expatriated on overseas assignments.
