We report the magnetic and structural properties of single crystal PrB
a2Cu3Oy grown by the travelling solvent floating-zone (TSFZ) method. M
agnetic susceptibility measurements show that TSFZ PrBa2Cu3Oy has a su
perconducting transition below 80 K. Zero-field-cooled magnetization s
hows diamagnetism with full volume fraction. The magnetic moment mu(ef
f) approaches 2.0 mu(B), and is in good agreement with that of the Pr3
+ ion in the presence of a crystal field. The as-grown TSFZ PrBa2Cu3Oy
is tetragonal and has a longer c-axis lattice constant than previousl
y reported. Structural analysis revealed a larger z positional paramet
er of the Ba site in as-grown TSFZ PrBa2Cu3Oy. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scien
