To study the crystal field (CF) at praseodymium sites in praseodymium
gallium garnet (PrGG) we investigated experimentally and theoretically
its Raman scattering, magnetization, and far infrared magnetotransmis
sion. The experimental data can be described by a set of CF parameters
which are rather close to those available for analogous neodymium-dop
ed rare earth gallium garnets. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
