Abstract
An europium organic-inorganic silicate hybrid was synthesized by graft ing a coordinative group (dipicolinic acid) to a silicate network prec ursor (3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) via a covalent bonding. Sol-gel p rocess and complexation were performed using different experimental co nditions. The hybrid materials, in particular the Eu3+ coordination mo de, were characterized by infrared and luminescence spectroscopies. Mo rphology of the materials and TG analysis showed that grafted silica e nhanced thermal and mechanical resistances of the organic part. (C) 19 98 Elsevier Science S.A.
