Abstract
The cloning of AIRE, the gene for autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candid iais-ectodermal dystrophy (APECED) promises to unravel some of the mys teries of autoimmunity. Here, Part Peterson and colleagues discuss rec ent studies of AIRE and the implications for disease therapy.
