p-Diethynylbenzene was polymerized in the presence of cobalt-phosphine
in diethylamine at room temperature with the yield of ca, 73.0% and t
he Poly (p-diethynylbenzene) was obtained with the molecular weight of
11 000. The polymers, being highly soluble in common organic solvents
, possess the structure containing pi-conjugated linear polyenes as th
e main chain as well as p-ethynylbenzene component as pendant groups a
nd emit intense fluorescence at 451.8 nm excited at UV light in a tolu
ene solution at room temperature.
