Treatment of [Pd([18]aneN(2)S(4))][BF4](2) ([18]aneN(2)S(4) = 1,4,10,1
3-tetrathia-7,1 6-diazacyclooctadecane) with HBF4 led to a marked stru
ctural change at Pd(II) from distorted octahedral [N2S2 + S-2]-donatio
n to a square-planar S-4-donor coordination via protonation of the sec
ondary amine functions; this pH-induced re-arrangement is accompanied
by a reversible colour change from purple to yellow in MeCN solution.
