Abstract
In this paper, the onset of convection in a horizontal porous layer, h eated from below and cooled at the top with a constant heat flux, is i nvestigated. The porous medium is assumed to be anisotropic in permeab ility with its principal axes arbitrary oriented with respect to the g ravity vector. The critical Rayleigh number and wavenumber at marginal stability are calculated. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
