Abstract
While usual fermentation of androst-4-ene-3,17-dione with a strain of Aspergillus fumigatus yields useful dihydroxy derivatives, fermentatio n of the substrate with acetone-dried cells of the same fungal strain yields androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione as the major product.
