H. Borhani et al., USE OF VANCOMYCIN IN VITRECTOMY INFUSION SOLUTION AND EVALUATION OF RETINAL TOXICITY, International ophtalmology, 17(2), 1993, pp. 85-88
The retinal toxicity of vancomycin in infusion solution used in vitrec
tomy and lensectomy was investigated in rabbit eyes by means of electr
oretinography and histologic study (light microscopy). Concentrations
of 8 mug/ml, 16 mug/ml, and 32 mug/ml of vancomycin in balanced salt s
olution caused no abnormal ERG or histologic changes. However, ERG amp
litude depression and abnormal histologic changes occurred when the co
ncentration of 100 mug/ml of vancomycin was used.
