Abstract
Presented here is an analytical model for evaluating the enhancement f actor of photons emerging from irradiated target foils. This model is particularly appropriate when photon energy, target atomic number and experimental geometry make multiple scattering events negligible, as h appens in measurements which involve the interaction cross sections of photons in the 20 keV approximately < hnu < approximately 100 keV ene rgy range with atoms of z > approximately 40 as frequently required in basic atomic physics. An experimental check carried out on K lines of Mo, Cd and Sn targets irradiated by 59.54 keV photons shows that the results provided by the model are highly accurate.
