beta 2-Microglobulin (A beta(2)M) amyloidosis is a relatively new seco
ndary amyloidosis associated with renal failure and haemo- and periton
eal dialysis. Although beta 2-microglobulin depositions are systemic,
clinical manifestations are limited to articular and para-articular di
sease in most cases. A very limited number of patients have been repor
ted with extra-articular manifestations including those of the gastroi
ntestinal tract. We report on a patient who was treated with haemodial
ysis for 23 years and developed colonic pseudo-obstruction due to A be
ta(2)M amyloidosis. (C) 1998 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
