Periconia fusiformis is described as a new fungal anamorph species rel
ated to the group of congeneric taxa with setiform sterile apices. Its
differential character is the compact conidiogenous part, which devel
ops on all sides of the solitary stipes half way between the basal por
tion and the sterile apex giving the fructifications a spindle-like as
pect. It was found on dead stem parts of Brachypodium phoenicoides, bo
rdering a stream at 800 m altitude. Microscopic structures are illustr
ated with line drawings and SEM graphs.
