The predictive power of top quark condensation models strongly depends
on the behavior of higher dimensional operators. These are analyzed i
n this paper by an extension of the standard renormalization group (RG
) arguments, which turns out to be a surprisingly powerful tool. Top q
uark condensation models intermediated by underlying scalar exchange c
an be shown to be mere reparametrizations of the standard model. Furth
er on, RG arguments show that dynamical vector states cannot be lowere
d in top quark condensation models. Finally, we give a general argumen
t concerning the size of higher dimensional operators of heavy vector
exchange. [S0556-2821(98)05515-5].
