Abstract
The paper examines the complementary issues of the availability of nov el technological ideas and the receptiveness of managerial infrastruct ure. It suggests that the apparently conflicting philosophies of the t echnological minimalists, who seek to restore manufacturing effectiven ess by empowerment of work groups, and those who advocate large-scale automation of manufacturing systems in cellular form can be reconciled using ideas from object-oriented programming system.
