Abstract
The decay of the C 1s(2 sigma)(-1) 2 pi(1) (nu' = 0) and (nu' = 1) vib rationally excited states in CO has been studied, in particular, the s pectator decay region. The deexcitation spectra of the core-excited st ates have been recorded with both vibrational and angular resolution i n order to guide in the assignment of the two-here one-particle (2h1e) final states. Lifetime vibrational interference (LVI) influences the spectral features and LVI calculations have been employed to analyze t he complicated vibrational structure of the overlapping electronic sta res. Also other states, which have been hitherto unobserved in the dir ect valence photoelectron spectra, are revealed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Sci ence B.V. All rights reserved.
