Abstract
This paper develops the concept of dynamic stochastic finite element m ethod, and studies the dynamic response of frame structures with stoch astic parameters to dynamic excitation by a new dynamic stochastic fin ite element. The concept of dynamic constraint mode functions for elem ents of a frame is introduced and it is applied to form. the dynamic s hape function matrices of each order for random dynamic displacement f ield of the frame element. The natural characteristics of the structur e are calculated with the recurrence method. Efficient analysis techni ques for the dynamic response of random structure are described in det ail via perturbation approach and mode superposition. These are follow ed by suitable numerical examples which indicate that employment of su ch a dynamic stochastic finite element method in conjunction with an e fficient analysis technique will effect a significant economical, effi cient and accurate solution for the dynamic analysis of structures wit h stochastic parameters to dynamic excitation.
