Dn. Saheb et Jp. Jog, CRYSTALLIZATION OF POLYPHENYLENE SULFIDE IN THE PRESENCE OF DICHLORODIPHENYL SULFONE, Journal of macromolecular science. Physics, B37(5), 1998, pp. 615-625
The results of crystallization and melting studies of polyphenylene su
lfide (PPS) in presence of a low molecular weight (LMW) compound are r
eported. The crystallization is studied using differential scanning ca
lorimetry (DSC) and optical microscopy. It is observed that the additi
on of the LMW compound resulted in a decrease in melting point and cry
stallization temperature, suggesting significant changes in crystallin
e morphology and crystallization behavior, respectively. The spherulit
ic morphology was also found to become altered in terms of size and te
xture, confirming incorporation of the compound in the structure. The
changes observed were more significant for melt-blended samples than t
hose observed for dry blends.
